La Tarara is a lively Andalusian restaurant and tapas bar tucked into Av. Federico Garcia Lorca in Arroyo de La Miel. It serves up a bustling atmosphere that locals clearly appreciate, with a steady hum of conversation filling the space especially during evenings and weekends. The vibe leans towards convivial rather than quiet, making it a great spot if you enjoy the buzz of a popular neighborhood dining room where the energy comes as much from the crowd as the food.

The menu focuses on traditional Andalusian flavors, shining through in standout dishes like Ensaladilla Rusa, Berenjenas con Miel de Caña (eggplants with cane honey), and more substantial plates such as the succulent Codillo (pork knuckle) that’s reported to be sticky-sweet and tender enough to fall off the bone. Tapas options like Croquetas de Roquefort y Nueces and Queso de Cabra Frito offer a good range of textures and flavors, well-paired with their selection of wines and homemade vermouth. This attention to balance between small plates and more hearty choices suits both casual aperitivo visits and fuller dinners.

Service here is friendly and helpful, with staff willing to explain dishes or recommend a good Rioja to complement your meal. Its popularity means it can get busy, often with a local crowd which contributes to the authentic feel, and bookings are recommended if you’re coming in a larger group. The space still manages to feel welcoming without being overly formal — expect a warm but bustling environment where timing of food delivery is well paced.

Whether you’re stopping by for a refined glass of wine paired with a few carefully chosen tapas, enjoying a family dinner, or meeting friends for a cheerful evening, La Tarara offers an experience that closely reflects the lively Andalusian dining tradition in the area. It works best mid to late afternoon through dinner hours when the kitchen is in full swing and the restaurant’s spirit is fully alive.

Fantastic tapas bar. Good quality wine. Reasonable prices. Each glass comes with small tapas - really good place for an aperitivo. They also have a restaurant.

From the moment we stepped in and took in the ambiance and aroma we felt we were in for a delight. And these fine folks delivered! Whether for a refined glass of wine, some gourmet nibbles or delicious dinner, this is a must. We returned again the next night for dinner, the pork knuckle was so sticky and sweet and fell off the bone, the vegetables perfect and the meatballs with almond sauce is delicious.

I wasn’t going to set ourselves up for anything amazing, the place seemed to be very popular with locals, quite noisy but in a good way. We found a table no bother at all and were seen to pretty quickly with drinks and a menu. We both ordered the beef steak with Spanish potatoes and veg, the stake was cooked medium, which is how we asked for it. I was surprised as to how well it was cooked. So succulent and easy to cut and tender to chew. Really really great meal. Truly is a wonderful restaurant. Service was fast and friendly, I ordered the apple pie as a dessert, and the waiter said it would be 20 mins as it made to order. I was expecting an apple pie slice as you get traditionally, but this was a total surprise it came on time and it could actually be the best apple pie I’ve ever had. It was sliced, bit really thinly like crisp think had a lovely flavour to it and the edge was so crispy and yummy, the more I ate the more I wanted. It was for 2 but my gf couldn’t manage it so I happily took it. Man alive so moreish. If you ever get the chance when in Benalmadena put this lovely restaurant on your list. It won’t let you down. The waiter was superb. We left a tip it was that good.

We had a lovely meal here. Nice local restaurant, full of locals and families. Very reasonable priced. Give 4 star as the service was a bit slow (10 min+ wait several times for drink orders), and the squid ink pasta was a bit too salty and oily. Everything else was lovely. Meal for 3 plus several rounds of drinks came to 50 euro and they gave us a free tapa too.
